Maryland dental CE requirements
Renewal cycle: 2 years. Requirements below are per cycle.
Dentist
Verified against an official source30 hours per 2-year renewal cycle
Mandatory categories
- 3 h — Infection Control
- 2 hours on abuse & neglect as it relates to Maryland law, required every other renewal cycle.
- 2 hours on proper prescribing and disposal of prescription drugs.
- Current CPR certification (AHA, ARC, or Board-approved equivalent) — required to hold a license, does not count toward the 30-hour total.
- At least 13 of the 30 hours must be live/interactive (in-person or real-time webinar); up to 17 hours may be self-study.
- Infection control minimum increased from 2 to 3 hours for renewals in 2025 and after — confirm the current figure with the Board.

Hygienist

- Current CPR certification required to hold a license — does not count toward the 30-hour total.
- At least 13 of the 30 hours must be live/interactive; up to 17 hours may be self-study.
- Hygienists licensed within 6 months of graduation are exempt from CE for their first renewal.
