Medicaid accuracy disclaimer
Why Medicaid acceptance information on DentistGrid is informational only.
Medicaid is administered by each state, and dental coverage under Medicaid varies substantially by state, by managed-care plan, by age group (child vs. adult), and by service category. A practice that accepts Medicaid in one program may not accept it in another.
What we display
- "Accepts Medicaid" is shown only when a claimed provider has attested to it. We do not infer Medicaid acceptance from NPPES — that field does not exist in NPPES.
- For unclaimed listings, the Medicaid filter on our search saves your preference but does not narrow results.
- We do not list which specific Medicaid managed-care organizations a practice contracts with, the panel status (open vs. closed), or which procedures are covered.
What we do not promise
- That a listed practice is currently enrolled with your state's Medicaid program or your specific managed-care plan.
- That the practice is accepting new Medicaid patients (panels frequently close).
- Coverage for adults vs. children. Many state Medicaid programs offer comprehensive pediatric dental coverage but limited or emergency-only adult dental coverage.
- That any specific procedure will be covered.
How to confirm before booking
- Call the practice and ask: "Are you currently accepting new Medicaid patients on [your specific plan]?" Provide the exact plan/MCO name printed on your Medicaid card.
- Call your state Medicaid program or your managed-care plan's member services line. They maintain authoritative in-network provider lists.
- For children, also ask about your state's EPSDT dental benefit.
- For free or sliding-scale care, search the federal HRSA Find a Health Center directory for community health centers that offer dental services.
